On this very hot and humid afternoon, I am pondering a question with my Little Sir-4-Year-Old. "If I were an African animal, which one would I be?"
He is very definite in his decision. He would be a lion. "Aslan" is the Turkish word for lion (which C.S. Lewis wisely used for the name of his great Lion), and Little Sir loves Aslan, as well as lions in general. Sometimes he says his name is "Simba". (I wonder what that means, and from which language?)
Or maybe, we should extend it to other continents, because Siberian tigers are very, very cool, and so are huskies (no pun intended.) Then again, I am also partial to black leopards from Java and black panthers from India (I LOVED Bagheera, as a child, from The Jungle Book)...(yes, there is a definite preference for the feline theme, here.)
And then there are dolphins.
And horses.
So, I ponder this very profound question, and now pose it to you. If you were an animal, which one would you be...and why?

This is a great question---we need more of this on the blogs!
I would be a black panther. I'd creep around, one paw in front of the other, in a weaving sort of manner. Most times, the other animals wouldn't be able to notice me, because I'd be all stealth and everything, but, when I was ready.....one day....after stalking my carefully selected prey.....SURPRISE. Then I'd casually lay back and lick my incisors and clean out my nails.
See what happens when you're a housewife for too long?
Thank you, Luna, for playing. You will receive various and sundry prizes, to be announced later.
Good choice, by the way!
I'm torn between a bird and a dolphin. I think I'd prefer to be a dolphin - swimming and frolicking so freely in the water. I love the water. So cool and refreshing. And you don't weigh a thing in the water, either! So liberating!!
yes, dolphins are definitely cool. We spent this afternoon at the beach, and I was in the water most of the time...weightless is wonderful!
I would be an owl... I'm such a night person and always prefer when its cooler outside.
Know what's interesting here (from a psychological standpoint....) is I wonder how many of us picked animals that they thought actually REFLECT them, as is, versus what they WISH they could be like. That's interesting, no?
Reminds me of this golf video game we have here. In the game, you can choose all manner of physical attributes for your player before you actually start playing. There are a million combos--anything you want, you can get.
My kids play with this (they don't bother with the golf-they just like building people) and they like to make "Manladies". Use your imagination here for a description of that. They laugh SO hard. And so do I-they create these androgynous creatures that are quite hilarious and "diverse".
I found myself building this flawless blonde with a tiny waist and a rather large chest (product of playing with evil Barbies as a child, I'm sure). I was truly annoyed that there was no smaller waist to choose, and I was still unsatisfied with her legs, though my husband told me that since she was supposed to be an athlete, none of the legs would be smaller. Sigh. %^&$#! It bothered me afterward-that I would do that.
I walk in, and see my husband playing the other night. Guess what his character looked like?
Him. Exactly him, right down to the beard, knit hat, button down shirt and bowling shoes. I freaked that he would pick that. He thought it was great that he could create an accurate representation of himself.'Nuff said, right?
Says a lot about a person, doesn't it? Whether, if given the opportunity, they would change themselves.........
Sorry for the hijack, I truly am JM-it all just showed up in my conscious mind. Good post hon.
I can see why you would make yourself an ideal...I much prefer my drivers' license photo to my Green Key photo...it's a lot more flattering. Same reason why I rip up ugly pix of me, and only save the pretty ones (that's why digital cameras are the BEST!)
For me,the animal thing is like an escape. Right now, I wish I could make DH, Little Sir & me into some animal that could transport themselves easily to Europe, then change back to people again, so DH could see his dad, who's not doing so well, and not go through all the red tape to get there. Animals don't worry about money or work or household responsibilities.
NP about the hijack, Luna. I tend to do that myself, don't I? I prefer a good discussion to silence in the comment category, any day.
